Taylor Fergen was good, but Webster Groves’ KK Rodriguez was better. Rodriguez scored 35 points (to Fergen’s 24) to lead the Statesmen past Republic 73-60 at the Scoreboard Guy Shootout in Ozark Saturday.
Republic committed 20 turnovers against the trapping pressure of Webster Groves, but despite that — and their inability to stop Rodriguez — they stayed in the game until the 4th quarter. The Lady Tigers fell behind by 18 points in the first quarter, but closed the gap to nine points early in the 4th quarter before the Statemen put the game away.
In fact, Republic actually outscored Webster Groves in three of the four quarters, despite never getting closer than nine points after the first few minutes of the game. Webster Groves led 27-9 after one quarter, but Republic outscored the Statesmen 19-18 in the 2nd, 13-10 in the 3rd, and 19-18 in the 4th.
Fergen had 24, and Megan Branstetter, making her first start in the place of injured Brylee Manes, scored 17. Allyson Barrett added 11. Natalie Bennett had three, Morgan McGuire and Avy Powell-Qualo each scored two. Madi Appleberry had one.
Republic falls to 11-8. The Lady Tigers travel to Neosho for a conference showdown with a good Lady Wildcats team on Monday.Find out how you can get $25 worth of free photos as a subscriber to Republic Tiger Sports magazine. Sign up now, before this offer runs out!
