Three different Tigers scored in double figures as Republic picked up where it left off in the Blue and Gold Tournament, blowing out Springfield Central 57-20 Tuesday night at The Pit. It was the third straight victory by Republic over a Springfield public school, after they beat Parkview and Glendale in the semifinals and finals of the Blue & Gold.
Treydon Rackley led the Tigers with 14 points. Caleb Singley had 11 and Ty Stevens contributed 10.
Republic avoided a let-down in what had all the makings of a trap game after an eventful few days. In addition to their Blue and Gold championship, the Tigers learned Tuesday morning that they will play Sierra Canyon of California in the opening around of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions next week. The Trailblazers were ranked #1 in the country before losing their first game to the nation’s seventh-ranked team last Friday.
“There’s a lot of different factors that you worried about: coming off the Blue and Gold, playing a team that doesn’t have a very good record, the news from this morning with the Tournament of Champions,” coach Trevyor Fisher says of the run-up to Tuesday’s game. “It was kind of a perfect storm for us to come out flat and not ready to play, but that’s the benefit of having six seniors who’ve been through this before. We came out focused, took it to them early, and imposed our will right from the start.
“It’s a mature group. They don’t look ahead. They know they have to focus on the next game ahead — you can’t worry about Bolivar until you beat Central; you can’t worry about Carl Junction until you beat Bolivar; you can’t worry about the Tournament of Champions until that game gets here.”
In addition to the three players in double figures in scoring, Republic got eight points from Cameron Doke, seven from Broc Smith, three from Jeremy Geiger, and two each from Mitch Coiner and Devon Ward.
Republic improves to 10-1. The Tigers are on the road Friday for a game against Bolivar, which had been ranked 10th in Class 4 before being upset in the Blue & Gold Tournament.Find out how you can get $25 worth of free photos as a subscriber to Republic Tiger Sports magazine.
