Alley-Oop Sparks Tigers in Blowout COC Opener

Everyone did a little bit of everything for Republic in a 74-30 win over Carl Junction to open Central Ozark Conference play Tuesday night at home. Treydon Rackley, Ty Stevens, and Caleb Singley all scored in double figures, eight different players scored, and Republic turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half to pull away from the Bulldogs.

The highlight of the 1st half was an alley-oop jam by Stevens on a pass from Mitch Coiner. The play came after a Trevyor Fisher time out, as the Tigers struggled to put away the Bulldogs in the 2nd quarter. The dunk lit a fire under the Tigers, who scored the last 11 points of the half to grab a 37-20 lead. Despite the 17-point lead, coach Trevyor Fisher wasn’t pleased with how the Tigers were playing before the break.

“I told them at halftime that was the worst half-court defense we’ve played all season,” Fisher says. “We got them turn it over in the full court a little bit, and got some turnovers, but simply guarding in the half-court, we didn’t do a very good job in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, we came out much better—attention to detail and doing the things that we normally do.”

The increased defensive intensity paid off for the Tigers, as they gave up just one field goal in the 2nd half, outscoring Carl Junction 37-10 to put the game away.

Rackley led Republic with 15 points. Stevens had 14 and Singley scored 13. Devon Ward added nine. Broc Smith and Cameron Doke had seven each. Jeremy Geiger added six and Coiner scored three.

Republic improves to 11-2 (1-0 in the COC) heading into the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions. The Tigers open the tournament Thursday at JQH Arena against Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth, California. That game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. Republic Tiger Sports will broadcast all three of the tournament games.Find out how you can get $25 worth of free photos as a subscriber to Republic Tiger Sports magazine.
