When Katie Hamilton first steps onto the golf course representing Missouri S&T next year, she won’t have any experience playing college golf. But that’s okay, because no one else will have any experience, either. That’s because Hamilton will be part of the first-ever women’s golf team at the university in Rolla.
“I think it’s so cool,” she says. “I’m going to go down in history no matter.”
Hamilton says S&T was not on her mind as a potential college when she first began her search.
“I was looking for an agriculture school. But my dad went to S&T, so…I went to get him off my back,” she says. “I actually liked it, and come to think of it, they had a girls golf team starting, and I really liked my coach, so I’m really excited for that.”
Hamilton says she’s looking forward to playing golf in college, but it’s not something she’d be giving up, even if she weren’t playing competitively.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get burned out of golf. It’s something I just love to do,” she says. “If I’m having a bad day, I love to do it, and if I’m having a good day, I love to do it. Golf is something constant in my life, and I enjoy it.”
