Post-Slump Summers Leads Lady Tigers

Karleigh Summers is out of her hitting slump and Neosho paid the price. Summers collected three base hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs in a 10-0 Republic victory on the road Thursday night. It was the second straight game that Summers has shown signs of life after a brief mid-season hitting slump.

“I’m just really trying to focus on driving my front shoulder through the ball, and trying to scoot up on the plate and do my job,” she says. “It feels good. I’d gone through a little bit of a slump, and it’s great (to contribute).”

Catcher Julia Higgins also had three hits for the Lady Tigers. Ally Stolte and Alyssa Roth had two hits apiece.

Rachel Rook struggled with her control, but still managed to complete the shutout. Neosho really threatened only once — loading the bases in the 2nd inning with no outs, before Rook struck out the side. Rook finished with 12 strikeouts and allowed only two hits.

Republic is 11-3. They’re 5-0 in the COC and play a non-conference game at Kickapoo Friday.
