After racking up a record 12 wins in the regular season, the Lady Tigers tennis team made a statement even in its final loss. Facing higher-seeded Kickapoo, Republic put up a fight in their final team match of the year, before losing by a deceptive 5-0 score.
Despite being shut out, Republic came within a few points here and there of threatening an upset. Two of the three doubles matches were close: Kaytlin Pearce and Kaitlyn Snyder lost 6-8; Molly Womack and Makenzie Clark went to a tiebreaker before losing 8-9 (7-9).
Kickapoo clinched the victory by winning the top two singles matches, bringing other matches to a halt. At the time, Heather Georges was leading her match 6-0, and the other matches were barely underway.
The Lady Tigers end their season with a 12-2 overall team record—the program’s best ever.
Individual districts will be held Friday at Republic.
