With a 2-0 win over Neosho Thursday night, the Republic boys soccer team is off to its best start ever at 6-1. That’s not enough, says coach Kevin Hauck.
“This was a great win. We’re happy to have that, but we’ve got to keep on setting our goals higher and higher,” says Hauck. “We’re meeting goals, but we’ve got to set them higher. We have all this potential, and we have to want more, so I’m hoping we can continue to want more throughout the season.”
Thursday night, it was two first-half goals by Dylan Brown that made the difference for Republic on a warm, muggy night in Neosho. Brown scored the first goal on a header with an assist from Mason Michaelis. His second goal was assisted by Ray Rosas. Cody Marcotte and the defense kept Neosho off the board all night to seal the win.
“Neosho’s always a tough place to play, so coming down here and getting a road win is a big win for us. They play hard down here and get a lot of support. I think coming down here and playing well like we did, it was an important win for us,” Hauck says.
Republic puts its 6-1 record on the line at the Parkview Tournament this weekend in Springfield, starting with a game Friday night.
