Republic Rebounds with Two Friday Wins in Oklahoma

After losing their first game of the season Thursday, the Lady Tigers softball team responded with two straight wins Friday at a tournament in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

In their first game of the day, Republic came from behind to beat Tahlequah 5-3. Trailing 3-2, the Lady Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Karleigh Summers and Megan Thorne led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Kami Holt walked to load the bases. Sydney Phillips and Ally Stolte were both hit by pitches, forcing home two runs — then Taylor Hulland knocked in a third run with a single.

Holt doubled, singled, and scored three runs to power the Lady Tigers’ offense. Summers also had two base hits.

Rachel Rook pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on just one hit. She struck out 11 and walked six.

In the nightcap, Taylor Hulland went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead Republic past Carl Albert 5-2. The Lady Tigers again scored three runs in the 5th inning to secure the win.

With the game tied 2-2, Megan Thorne led off with a single. After a groundout, Sydney Phillips walked and Ally Stolte reached on a fielder’s choice before Hulland ripped a two-run triple into right-center field. Hulland came in to score on a wild pitch.

Sydney Phillips scored two runs for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 4-1.

Rachel Rook pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. She struck out five and walked four.

The Lady Tigers will wrap up the tournament in Shawnee Saturday.
