The matches were close. The final score wasn’t.
The Lady Tigers tennis team pulled out one close match after another Monday night against Carthage. When all was said and done, it ended up a 9-0 sweep in Republic’s favor.
“Great effort from the entire team tonight,” says coach Eric Hanson. “This is a very tough Carthage team… Our girls showed a lot of resilience playing and winning close matches.”
The closes of all was the singles match between Makenzie Clark and Carthage’s Natalie Hitchcock. The two played to an 8-8 tie before Clark won the tiebreaker 7-3.
Two of the three doubles matches were also close. Both Macie Thornhill/Heather Georges and Clark/Molly Womack won their matches 8-6.
The win improves Republic’s record to 3-1 (1-0 in the Central Ozark Conference).
The JV team won 25 of 30 matches, as well.
