Emily Jordan put on an offensive clinic in the first half, scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes to help Republic throttle Springfield Central Monday night, 4-1.
Jordan scored her first goal from about the 20-yard line. She played the ball from the inside the box at the 15, circled back toward the sideline, then worked toward the middle again, booting it over the goalkeeper into the far side of the net to give the Lady Tigers the lead.
Anna Jones , Emily Griffith, and Grace Cremeans each had an assist on one of Jordan’s goals.
“Emily’s a great player. She’s not a selfish player, but she definitely looks to take opportunities when they present themselves,” says coach Kevin Hauck. “She’s a smart enough player to read that with a little bit of wind…if she gets a good look, she can put a good hit on it and have an opportunity with some of those outside shots.”
Hauck says the Lady Tigers were aggressive from the start Monday, and that resulted in good looks for Jordan.
“Her teammates were able to play the ball well off of her — a lot of give-and-go combinations. Any time Emily can get going for us, it really sparks our team in whole,” Hauck says.
The Lady Tigers stretched their lead to 4-0 when Jade Sawyer scored early in the second half. Sawyer found a rebound, calmly settled it, and pounded it into the back of the net to make the score 4-0.
Central’s only goal came a few minutes later when they scored on a penalty kick.
Republic gets back in the win column after a loss on the road at Carl Junction. The Lady Tigers are 12-7. They will be home against Monett Thursday night. They’ll be celebrating Senior Night between the JV and varsity games.
