Republic scored two runs with two out in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie Carthage 3-3, but Carthage broke through in the top of the 13th to sneak away with a 4-3 win at Republic Tuesday.
Dawson Fultz grounded a 1-out single to left field off Republic reliever Tyler Mackey, and the next hitter drew a walk. After Mackey picked up a strikeout, a single through the right side scored Fultz with the game-winner.
Carthage took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning with the aid of a Republic error. The Tigers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the lead to 2-1.
Carthage added a single run in the 5th and maintained their 2-run lead until the bottom of the 7th. After the first two batters were retired, Josh Gentry and Austin Atkins singled, and both came around to score on an RBI triple by Gage Morris. Ryan Cape struck out to end the inning.
Morris had three hits and Atkins had two for the Tigers, who compiled 11 hits for the game.
Chandler Coates pitched eight innings, allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out 12 for Republic. Tyler Mackey took the loss despite pitching well in relief. He worked five innings, gave up just one run on three hits, striking out six and walking two.
