The Republic tennis team continued the dominating start to its season with a 9-0 sweep at Joplin Tuesday. Republic lost only 10 individual games out of more than 80 played during the nine varsity matches.
Three Tigers — Michael Nacy, Brad Hendrix, and Dylan Mackey — swept their singles matches. Brett Carpenter, Gabe Bandfield, and Austin Massey also won handily.
In the three doubles matches, Republic dropped only one game. That was in an 8-1 victory by Hendrix and Mackey. The teams of Nacy/Massey and Bandfield/Carpenter swept their opponents. The Tigers still haven’t lost a doubles match all year — despite mixing up the #2 and #3 doubles combinations by pairing Bandfield with Carpenter and Hendrix with Mackey.
Joplin is a district opponent for Republic. The Eagles were playing without their top player, Alex Mailes, who is injured.
The JV Tigers beat Joplin 15-3.
Republic returns to the courts Friday at Webb City.
