Republic Picks Up Milestone Win vs. Nixa

The best tennis team in Republic history continues to roll. The Tigers beat Nixa Thursday night 6-3, earning the first-ever win for Republic over the Eagles in program history.

The Tigers are now 9-1 this year — just two victories short of the school record for single-season wins. Thursday’s victory happened in unexpected fashion, after the previously unbeaten team of Michael Nacy and Austin Massey got swamped by Garrett Bacon and Briggs Boyd, 8-3. Republic won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Nacy rebounded with an 8-1 win over Bacon in singles. Brad Hendrix cruised past Boyd in the #2 singles slot. Gabe Bandfield knocked off Jose Alcantara, and Dylan Mackey beat Benjimin Boyd to seal the Tigers’ victory.

Republic’s only loss of the year was to Branson earlier in the week, when the Tigers were competing without Hendrix and Bandfield. They still pushed Branson to the limit before falling in the final match of the night.

Republic is home again next Tuesday against Mount Vernon.
