Tigers Come from Behind to Clip Eagles

Republic overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock off Nixa 3-2 Thursday night. Jansen McQuerter pitched a complete game to pick up the win, and Landin Sigman drove in the game-winner for the Tigers, who won their second straight after three losses to start the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead with single unearned runs in the 1st and 4th innings. In the 1st, Stephen Belcher singled to lead off the game, advanced to 3rd base on two passed balls, and scored on a sacrifice fly. In the 4th, Dustin Buckner doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers got one run back in the bottom of the 4th when Regan Butterworth tripled and scored on an error. An inning later, the Tigers tied it when McQuerter singled home Cameron Beck.

Republic broke the tie in the bottom of the 6th. Butterworth led off with a single. Gage Morris reached on an error as he tried to sacrifice Butterworth to second. That’s when Sigman grounded the ball into center field for the game-winning hit.

In the top of the 7th, McQuerter retired the Eagles in order to complete the victory. For the game, he allowed just five hits and didn’t walk a batter. He struck out three. Both of Nixa’s runs were unearned.

McQuerter, Butterworth, and Sigman had two hits apiece for the Tigers.

The Tigers improve to 2-3. They play Monday at home against Cassville.
