When Southwest Baptist University first contacted Lauren Strobel, she wasn’t crazy about the idea of playing softball there. That changed quickly.
“When I got to the college, it was an immediate thing. I just knew I had to go there,” she says. “It just felt really good. I honestly didn’t think I wanted to go there whenever they contacted me, but then 5-10 minutes into the visit, I just knew that I wanted to go there.”
Strobel put together one of the best seasons in Republic softball history as a senior third baseman, with her .486 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .758. Both of those marks led the team.
“She’s one of the toughest competitors on our team,” says assistant coach Allen Stolte. “She’s a hard worker (and) a tremendous kid. She does a great job at practice. She’s a good role model. She’s one of the girls that we like our younger girls to look up to because of the way she plays the game.”
Strobel will join best friend Emily Hall in Bolivar next year. Hall also signed to play softball at SBU.
“I think it’s really awesome that we got the opportunity to . Whenever the high school season started, we always talked about it, but I don’t think we realized it would actually come true,” Strobel says. “It’s awesome to see that we’re going to be spending the next four years together.”
