Skyler Hale was a two-year all-conference and two-year all-state lineman for Republic. Wes Beachler isn’t the only coach who noticed him.
“We were debating up there at all-state meetings this year who was first-team because we only have five offensive linemen,” says Beachler. “You know people think highly of a young man when you have two conference opponents stand up and speak and talk about how, from snap to whistle, Skyler is a butt-kicker.”
Hale will stay close to home as a college player, having signed with Evangel University in Springfield. He says it was an easy decision when he visited the campus.
“I went there for an overnight visit and I really got to see the inside of the campus and how it worked. Everybody was nice. Everybody worked together like a family. I really felt at home,” Hale says. “And all-you-can-eat meals three times a day was pretty nice.”
Beachler says Hale’s mentality as a player will fit in at Evangel next year.
“The mentality that I like is from snap to whistle and nothing after. Skyler gets after it from snap to whistle, and does nothing after but walk back to the huddle and get ready to do it again,” he says. “Evangel’s getting an outstanding offensive lineman, (and) a good young man with a good work ethic.”
