Three at a Time: Lady Tigers Rain Points on Marshfield

The Lady Tigers took a while to get going, but when they did — boy, did they ever. Republic made 11 three-pointers in a 71-50 non-conference win over Marshfield Thursday night. That’s just one short of the Republic record for team three-pointers in a game.

Marshfield dominated the glass in the early minutes and stayed with the Lady Tigers in the first quarter, trailing just 20-16 as the second quarter began. But Republic outscored Marshfield 24-12 in the next eight minutes, building a 44-28 lead at the midway point.

“We came out and looked like we were a little flat defensively. We weren’t doing a very good job of moving our feet and they were taking advantage,” says coach Kris Flood.

But despite the slow defensive start, the Lady Tigers uncorked a flurry of long-range jumpers that made it difficult for Marshfield to keep up.

“We’ve got the ability to score and shoot the ball well. We can score against man(-to-man), we can score against zone. It can be tough for the opposing teams at times. We’ve got enough kids that we might have one person off, but hopefully everybody else is consistent enough that they can step up,” Flood says.

Thursday’s game was a case in point. Six different Lady Tigers made three-point shots, including Jordan Kabetske with four.

Brylee Argo led the Lady Tigers with 15 points, including one three. Kabetske had 14. Brooke Stanfield scored 12. Alexis Ladwig had eight. Jade Sawyer scored seven. Taylor Fergen scored six. Logan Flood had four. Madi Appleberry scored three, and Carly Bayans had two.

Republic made 48% of its shots from the field and was 11-of-27 from beyond the three-point line. Marshfield shot 35% from the field and turned the ball over 18 times.

Republic is 13-1. They will be back in action Monday at the Gary Keeling Lady Liberator Tournament in Bolivar.
