Piece of Cake: Lady Tigers Honor Seniors with Easy Win

Republic celebrated softball Senior Night with its record-tying 24th win of the season, an 11-1 victory over McDonald County. The Lady Tigers controlled the game from the start, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings to take an 8-0 lead.

For the second straight game, Rachel Rook struck out 14 batters in just five innings. She allowed just one base hit: a home run by Kylie Helm in the fourth inning that accounted for the only McDonald County run.

But the night belonged to seniors Caty Eby, Emily Hall, Marlee Scroggins and Lauren Strobel. The Republic softball program has won 84 games since they were freshmen. They’ve helped lead the Lady Tigers to back-to-back 24-win seasons, the most in school history. And they set another school record with 15 consecutive wins earlier this year.

Not only did they combine to go 6-for-13 during the game, but they were honored for their role in some of Republic’s most successful softball seasons ever. The Lady Tigers’ 24 wins so far are the most ever in the regular season.

“The girls worked really hard to be where they’re at now. They’ve played a lot of softball over the years,” says coach Lee Dishman. “If I could get a redshirt on them, I’d take them again next year.”

The four seniors combined for six hits, and all four of them had at least one. Eby led the way, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Strobel was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in.

Republic is now 24-2 with just one regular-season game remaining. The Lady Tigers travel to Rogersville next Tuesday.
