Cross Country Districts (Photos) – Canfield Cruises into Sectionals

Philip Canfield was the lone Republic qualifier for sectionals at the district cross country meet in Nixa Saturday, finishing 8th with a time of 16:20.

Canfield was running the course in Nixa for the 11th time in his career. He says he hoped to grab the district title despite a hip injury that he suffered at the Central Ozark Conference meet.

“I really wanted the win today, because I’ve never gotten the win at Nixa before,” Canfield says. “But I’m really happy with what I got. It was a little bit of a rough race. We’ll see what I can do the next two weeks.”

Canfield finished six seconds off his best time at the Nixa course. Several other Tigers turned in personal records–Chad Parker (18:13), Zach Branstetter (18:31), Aaron Scobee (18:47), and Owen Davis (19:42). Jake Parker finished with a time of 18:16, and Tyler Mackey finished in 20:06.

In the girls’ race, Destinee Tyk and Madi Appleberry both just missed advancing to sectionals, finishing in under 21:30. Sara Wilkin finished in just over 24 minutes, Tabitha Caruthers finished with a personal best of 24:18, and Payton Coskey finished around the 25:00 mark.

Canfield advances to sectionals at Camdenton next Saturday.
