Tennis Team Sweeps Zizzers to Advance

The Lady Tigers tennis team swept its opening-round district match against West Plains Monday. Republic won the first five matches, clinching the best-of-nine match before the final four were completed.

The night began with a Republic sweep of the three doubles matches. Heather Georges and Molly Womack turned in a key performance, winning an 8-6 tiebreaker to defeat Andria Mullins and Aimee Metcalf. Georges and Womack fell behind early in the tiebreaker before rallying.

“We had high hopes for (the tiebreaker). Then we got down a little bit, and it kind of discouraged us,” says Womack. “But we stuck together as a team and pulled through.”

Kaityln Snyder and Macie Thornhill closed the match out with singles wins.

Republic travels to Nixa to face the #1 seeded Eagles Tuesday.
