Republic’s Philip Canfield turned in his best performance of the young cross country season at the 36th Annual Ray-Pec Invitational near Kansas City this weekend. Canfield finished third out of 130 runners with a time of 16:46.
Two runners from Jefferson City–Saxon Teubner and Jackson Schwartz–finished 1-2. Canfield was 17 seconds off the lead and only five seconds out of second place. He shaved about 15 seconds off his time on the same course last year.
Chad Parker and Zach Branstetter were the next-best Republic finishers, with times of 19:37 and 19:38, respectively.
Sophomore Destinee Tyk was the top finisher for Republic in the girls race. She finished 54th, with a time of 21:55.30. Made Appleberry finished 74th, at 22:39.40.
Jake Parker, Owen Davis, Sean Cross, Payton Coskey, Sara Wilken, and Emily Neal also competed for Republic.
