The Lady Tigers volleyball team won its first match of the season Saturday, toppling Columbia Rock Bridge in two sets before falling to Jefferson City as part of a double-header in Springfield.
In the opener, Republic dominated Rock Bridge, a team that had beaten Republic two years in a row — including a match in the state sectionals two seasons ago. The Lady Tigers beat Rock Bridge 25-10 25-12.
Brooke Stanfield had a season-high nine kills for the Lady Tigers. Mikayla Botkin had seven digs, and Lynn Kreul contributed eight assists.
The JV team also beat Rock Bridge in two sets, 25-21 25-12. The freshman team lost in three sets, 25-27 25-23 21-25.
In the second match of the day, Jefferson City Helias swept the Lady Tigers 25-19 25-9. Stanfield again led Republic with seven kills. Eryn Russell had five digs and Lynn Kreul added seven assists.
The Helias JV and freshman teams also won in two sets apiece.
Republic’s varsity record is 1-2. They’re back on the court at Glendale Tuesday night.
