#4: Republic Softball Shatters Records
The Lady Tigers softball team didn’t just re-write the school record book in 2014. They added a couple of new chapters, and left plenty of room for yet another edit this season.
From the very beginning, it was clear that Republic’s softball team would feature a powerful lineup with lots of potential. Over the first few weeks of the season, the Lady Tigers delivered. In a game against Cassville, Republic broke its first record of the season, slamming five home runs in a single game. That was among the best-ever single-game power performances in the history of Missouri high school softball.
The Lady Tigers went on to score 246 runs during the season, breaking the old record. They hit a record 26 homers and a record 18 triples. Five of those triples belonged to Kami Holt, tying the record set by Hailey Johnson during her historically good 2008 season. Holt also scored 40 runs–most in school history.
By the time the season ended, Republic had won 24 games, more than ever before.
Rachel Rook got in on the act, too. She won a record 21 games and struck out a record 249 batters, including 19 in one game against Springfield Kickapoo.
The Lady Tigers won a district championship in dramatic fashion, when Holt hit a home run in the bottom of the 7th inning to help them come from behind against Webb City. Although their season ended in an extra-innings loss in sectionals, you voted the Lady Tigers’ season the #4 story of the year in Republic Tiger Sports.
