For a while, it looked like Rogersville would run away with a victory in its tennis dual with Republic Thursday night. The Wildcats won the #1 doubles match and led in two other doubles matches, putting them in position to take a commanding lead into singles play.
But Republic’s second and third doubles teams reversed the momentum, won their matches in come-from-behind fashion, and set up Republic for a 6-3 win on the road. Heather Georges and Makenzie Clark used a late comeback to win their doubles match 9-7, and so did the team of Macie Thornhill and Molly Womack, also 9-7 winners.
With a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches, the Lady Tigers again turned to the lower half of the lineup to key the victory. Georges, Clark, Thornhill, and Tayler Avery–occupying the 3-6 spots in the singles lineup–all posted singles wins for the Tigers.
The Republic JV lost 10-8.
The win improves Republic’s varsity record to 2-1 overall. The Lady Tigers travel to Carthage for a Central Ozark Conference match on Monday.
