Late Rally Lifts Blue Jays Past Republic

Republic Tiger Sports20150507-3A three-run 6th inning helped propel Marshfield past the Tigers at Republic Thursday night 6-3. Wade Owens hit a two-run triple to key the rally for the Blue Jays, who delivered Republic its fourth loss in a row.

Jake Smith reached base four times with a base hit and three walks. Regan Butterworth and Austin Atkins had two hits apiece for the Tigers in a losing cause.

Each team scored a single run in the 1st inning. After Marshfield jumped in front, the Tigers got a two-out single from Smith followed by a triple by Butterworth to tie it.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead when Maverick Lopez drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 3rd.

Marshfield tied it in the 4th and took a 3-2 lead in the 5th. They busted the game open in the top of the 6th with three more.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers threatened by loading the bases with one out. Smith drew an RBI walk, but the next two batters struck out to end the rally.

Brady Welsh was the winning pitcher for Marshfield. Jansen McQuerter allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings for the Tigers, and took the loss.

After being rained out Saturday, the Tigers are back home again Tuesday against Rogersville.
