Republic’s tennis Tigers dropped only 13 games in six singles matches, dominating Hillcrest in a 9-0 shutout at home Tuesday. Bradley Hendrix led the way with an 8-0 win over Tyler Lesue in the #2 singles match. Michael Nacy was also flawless in singles, winning five straight games before his opponent, Samuel Hallam, withdrew with a knee injury.
Gabe Bandfield and Jacob Overturf each won their singles matches 8-3. Dylan Mackey won 8-3, and Austin Massey won 8-6.
In doubles, the team of Nacy and Hendrix won by forfeit because of the injury to Hallam. Bandfield and Overturf won their doubles match 8-2. Mackey and Massey overcame a 4-1 deficit to win doubles 8-6.
The Republic JV team was also victorious, 4-3. Brett Carpenter’s 7-5 win clinched the JV victory. Manny Elivo, younger brother of Republic tennis alum Eddy Elivo, earned his first victory, 6-2 in singles.
Republic improves to 2-2 overall. The Tigers play a double-header against Kickapoo and Nixa at Gillenwaters Tennis Complex in Springfield Thursday. They are scheduled to finish the singles portion of the Mt. Vernon Tournament, which was delayed by bad weather, on Friday.
