Chandler Coates allowed just one unearned run in five innings, leading Republic to a 5-4 win over Carl Junction on the road Friday night. Coates pitched five innings, allowing just two base hits. He walked four and struck out three.
Austin Atkins and Ryan Cape both had three hits, an RBI, and a run scored to lead the Tigers’ offense. Jake Smith, Regan Butterworth, and Coates each had two hits apiece.
The Tigers broke on top with one run in the 4th and two in the 5th. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 3-1 after five innings, before Republic added two more in the top of the 6th to make it 5-1. Carl Junction scored two in the sixth inning off reliever Jansen McQuerter, then one more in the seventh inning before McQuerter shut the door to seal the win for Republic.
The Tigers improve to 2-1 this season.
