Huge 4th Quarter Lifts Lady Tigers at Blue Springs

Jordan Kabetske caught fire in the fourth quarter, just in time to lift the Lady Tigers to a 69-61 win over Blue Springs on the road Friday. The Lady Tigers outscored the Wildcats 24-12 in the final period — led by Kabetske’s 11 — to come from behind.

Republic had trailed most of the way, partly because of Blue Springs’ hot shooting to start the game.

“They shot the ball tremendously well. They were lights out in the first quarter,” says coach Kris Flood. The Lady Tigers trailed 20-11 after one, and cut the lead to three points at halftime, 33-30.

“We came out a little flat in the third quarter,” says Flood. “We were down ten, 45-35. We pressed a little bit, got a couple big threes. We went on a 10-0 run and got it to 45-45.”

Heading into the fourth quarter, Blue Springs led 49-45. That’s when the Lady Tigers turned it on.

“We played really well in the fourth quarter. We hit our free throws. I think they got a little bit tired and we finally got some stops,” says Flood.

Kabetske led Republic with 17 points. Brooke Stanfield had 16. Michayla Shanks scored 12 (on four three-pointers) and Logan Flood had ten. Jade Sawyer added six points. Tori Taylor had four. Micah Mansker and Brylee Argo scored two points apiece.

“I was a little conceded with the trip and being off nine days. To their credit, both times they got down, they responded,” says Flood.

Republic improves to 9-2.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Lady Tigers, who stay in Kansas City tonight and play Lee’s Summit West tomorrow. The JV game tips off at noon. You can listen to the varsity game live right here. The Kris Yocum State Farm Pregame Show will begin about 10 minutes before varsity tipoff.
