Republic stormed back from a 4-3 deficit in the final ten minutes to steal a victory at home over Willard 6-4 Tuesday. The Tigers got three of their goals from uncommon sources — two from Tanner Peabody and one from Dawson Sjomeling. Julio Quezada added two and Mitchell Heinzler had one.
Coach David Ashby says the goals by Peabody and Sjomeling, who don’t get many opportunities to score in the normal course of the Republic offense, were a product of their hard work.
“It speaks to their work ethic. Tanner Peabody…and Dawson Sjomeling were in the right place at the right time. We’re following the play and we’re working hard,” Ashby says. “The guys really wanted this win. They were working for it for a while. It’s a testament to their character and how hard they’ve been working.”
Peabody says he was happy to score two goals, especially because it happened against rival Willard, “because we haven’t beaten them for a while, and putting it in against them, that’s probably the best part.”
