Haven Lander cleared 10’7″ to set a Republic record and win the pole vault district championship.

Brooke Stanfield advanced to sectionals in all four of her events, winning two, to lead Republic’s eight sectional qualifiers at the Class 4 District 6 track meet at Parkview Saturday. Stanfield won the high jump and the 200-meter dash, and finished 2nd in the 400- and 100-meters.

Freshman Haven Lander continued her storybook year on the pole vault, winning a district championship as well. She cleared 10’7″, breaking her own school record yet again.

“The warmups were not my best,” Lander says. “I was pretty nervous at the beginning, so that probably messed me up a little bit. Then I started calming down more as I went along.”

Lander outjumped her nearest competitors by seven inches. She was the only one to clear 10’3″, leaving her the chance for a record-setting jump.  Once she had secured a top spot, Lander says the pressure was off.

“I usually just want to place at least top three, so that takes the pressure away,” she says. “I was really happy with this.”

Jamie Chapman qualified for sectionals with a throw of 112’6″, blowing away her old personal best.

The girls 4x200m relay team of Autumn Garner, Madison Appleberry, Molly Zinecker, and Holly Burks finished 4th to advance to sectionals.

Ryan Way was the only Republic boy to move on to sectionals. He finished 2nd in the 1600-meter run.

Tiger sprinters Tryston Ellison and Jerney Jones finished just short of qualifying, finishing 5th and 6th respectively.
