Republic’s record-setting goal-scorer broke one more record in her final regular-season game as a Lady Tiger. Senior Sara Marcotte scored five goals–the most of her career–in a 10-0 win over Greenwood in Springfield Thursday.
“There have probably been 20 games in her career where, if we’d have let her stay in the game, she would’ve had five or six or seven goals,” says coach Mike Hines. “The cap has always been three, and last year in a district game, we let her get four. This being her last regular season game, we just left her in. We wanted her to get some minutes, and we just let her play, and it worked out that way.”
Marcotte wasn’t the only one with a career night offensively. Sierra Casagrand added four goals, also the most of her career. Jocelyn Carpenter added a goal for the Lady Tigers, too.
“It was kind of sad or different, because we’re going to miss Coach Hines, and Ashby, and the girls. But at the same time, we’re really excited,” Marcotte says of her final regular season game before districts next week.
“We got the #1 seed this year. The last two years we got the #2 seed, so we’re excited about that and looking forward to hopefully winning districts and getting to sectionals again, and seeing what we can do in sectionals for the third year in a row,” Marcotte says.
Republic begins district play next Tuesday at Willard. They’ll meet the winner of the Hillcrest/West Plains game.
