A six-hole stretch on the back nine dropped Republic’s Dylan Bekemeier down the leaderboard on Day One of the Class 4 state golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau. Bekemeier was two-over-par through 11 holes when a double bogey on #12 started his slide. He bogeyed holes 13, 16, and 17 before rebounding with a birdie on 18 to end the day at +6.
Bekemeier enters Day Two in 18th place overall. Despite his troubles — on one of the most difficult courses in Missouri — he’s only seven shots off the lead. Brade Carpenter of Washington and Joshua O’Hearn of Timberland are co-leaders after shooting a one-under-par 71.
Branson’s David Bennett (+2) and Glendale’s Baron Weaver (+5) are the only area golfers ahead of Bekemeier entering the second day of play.
Bekemeier tees off at 9:30 am Tuesday.
