Dustin Eby has been a starter for the Republic Tigers baseball team since he was a freshman, but his early success didn’t stop him from working to improve his game.
“He’s locked in on what he wants to do, what his goals are, and that’s what he pursues,” says head coach Howard Quigley.
One of those goals was a college baseball scholarship, and Eby achieved it when he signed with Kansas City Kansas Community College. Eby will be joining a Blue Devils team that competes in the Jayhawk Conference, and is set to join the pitching staff there.
Eby says his game has improved in all facets since he was a freshman, but it’s most evident on the mound.
“I think I’ve improved a lot in pitching. I’ve put a lot of work into that. My velocity, control, I’ve learned an extra pitch, in my slider,” he says.
Quigley says Eby and teammate Cole Hurst, who also recently signed to play college baseball, have some traits in common that other student-athletes should consider.
“They have good athletic ability, but more than anything, they have a strong will and desire to win,” says Quigley.
“I just wanted to have the chance to go on and get an education and play baseball somewhere,” Eby says. “I’m looking forward to improving a lot as a player and as a person, maturing, growing up and moving on in life.”
