The Republic Tigers scored five quick points after the opening tip Friday, and Webb City called time out just 34 seconds into the game.
It didn’t help the Cardinals.
The Tigers went on to drain six three pointers in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back in a 62-22 pounding of Webb City at home Friday. By the end of the 1st quarter, Republic led 25-4. It was 41-8 at halftime, even as Republic coach Trevyor Fisher had cleared his bench. The Tigers led 55-20 after the end of the 3rd quarter.
Canyon Smith hit three treys in the first half, Brock Yocum hit two, and Dylan Bekemeier made one. Smith ended the game with 17 points, Cody Geiger scored 14, and Yocum added ten. Jordan Kerr scored eight, Dillen Ramsey scored six, Bekemeier ended with three, Chase Hoffmann scored two points, and Cory Lafferty also had two.
Coach Trevyor Fisher said the Tigers’ hot shooting — they barely missed at all in the 1st quarter — made it an easy night for him.
“Anytime you make that many shots, you just sit over there and clap your hands,” Fisher says.
“I told the guys in the locker room, it’s easy to play defense, and be in a stance, and talk on defense when those shots are going in. What are you join to do if those shots don’t go in?” he says. “I kind of used it in that way to talk to our team about focusing.”
The win improves Republic’s record to 16-2, 2-0 in the Central Ozark Conference. Webb City falls to 6-13, and O-2 in the COC.
The Tigers are back in action Monday against Springfield Central at home.
