Republic was good enough to win Monday, but not good enough to please coach Trevyor Fisher. The Tigers beat Camdenton 62-45 in the opening round of the Rogersville Tournament. But Fisher wasn’t happy with his team’s effort, and he doesn’t think it had anything to do with the week that’s passed since their last game.

“I just think it was us being lackadaisical, lethargic, uninspired, and playing with no energy, and that’s a bad combination,” says Fisher. “I think it carried over — not only the first five, but I didn’t think the bench gave us anything. We didn’t talk. We just acted like we didn’t want to be out there.

The Tigers didn’t pull away from Camdenton until the final minutes of the 3rd quarter, when they scored nine points in about 90 seconds to make the score 45-31. They eventually led by 20 before settling for a 17-point win. But Fisher says the Tigers have a busy week ahead.

“You can’t pick and choose when you turn it on and off. It’s got to be right from the start. Against better teams, that’s going to hurt you, and it could cost you, so we’ve got some things to fix before Friday,” he says.

Friday, the Tigers will meet the host team Rogersville in the semifinals. The Wildcats beat Poplar Bluff Monday.

The Tigers were led by Cody Geiger with 19 points. Dillen Ramsey scored 12. Canyon Smith had eight. Brock Yocum scored seven. Dylan Bekemeier and Chase Hoffmann had six apiece, and Jordan Kerr scored four.

Republic, ranked #1 in Class 4, improved to 14-1.
