Lady Tigers Tough It Out at Rogersville

untitled-248

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win. The Lady Tigers knocked off Rogersville on the road Thursday night, 64-51, in a rough-and-tumble game that featured plenty of fouls, falls, and flying elbows. It was just the second game in nine days for the Lady Tigers, because of winter weather earlier in the week.

“It’s good to kind of get through a win tonight,” says coach Kris Flood. “The kids have been out of rhythm with the school situation, so I thought it could be a little big ugly, but we’re happy just to get away with one.”

The Lady Tigers used full court pressure to build an early lead, 16-8 after the first quarter. The score was 33-24 at halftime, and Republic was never able to push the lead past 13 points in the 2nd half.

Micah Mansker and Michayla Shanks each scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Tori Taylor had 11, Brooke Stanfield scored eight, Brylee Argo had seven, and Jordan Kabetske added six. Jade Sawyer and Logan Flood scored three apiece for the Lady Tigers.

Flood says while the offense continues to improve, he’s not happy with the way Republic’s defense played Thursday.

“Not to take anything away from them, but I think giving up 51 to (Rogersville), I don’t think that’s acceptable,” he says. “Some of the things we were doing on the offensive end at the beginning of the year, we’re kind of getting corrected, and now we’re struggling defensively.

“They’re learning to win. I think they’re growing a little bit. We’re fine, it’s just trying to become more consistent.”

The win improves Republic’s record to 10-2.
