Eleven different players scored as the Republic Lady Tigers blew past Carthage in their Central Ozark Conference opener on the road Monday, 63-40. Republic’s full-court pressure, which continues to improve, played a key role in the 2nd and 3rd quarters as the Lady Tigers built a dominating lead.

Republic shot poorly from the floor in the 1st quarter, but still managed to build a 16-12 lead after one. In the 2nd quarter, their press caused Carthage to turn the ball over — and to hurry their shot at the other end when they managed to break the press.

“I thought we had some really good moments,” says coach Kris Flood. “We had a bunch of mini runs. I thought we did a good job of attacking. Just in some spurts and some moments, we got some turnovers.”

Thanks to those mini runs, Republic outscored Carthage 21-6 in the 2nd period, and led 37-18 at the half. Flood says he wanted to make sure the Lady Tigers kept their momentum.

Brooke Stanfield takes a charge in the 1st half.

“We emphasized at halftime that we come out in the 3rd quarter and don’t let them back in the game, and I thought we did that. We had a really good quarter there.”

Republic allowed just four points in the 3rd quarter, and led 56-22 heading into the 4th before clearing the bench.

Brooke Stanfield scored 14 points — all of them in the 1st half — to lead the Lady Tigers. Tori Taylor and Jade Sawyer each scored eight. Michayla Shanks added seven. Jordan Kabetske and Micah Mansker each scored six. Bailey Cornelison had five points. Brylee Argo scored three, and Logan Flood, Payton Kabetske, and Rachael Allen scored two points apiece.

Republic improves to 11-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play. They’re back on the court Saturday at Marshfield.
