Congratulations to freshman softball pitcher Rachel Rook! You voted her the first-ever Tiger of the Week for her performance against Monett.
Making her varsity debut as a freshman starting pitcher, Rook struck out seven Lady Cubs, allowing just two runs (only one of them earned). When Monett put the tying run on 3rd base with no one out in the bottom of the 7th, Rook pitched out of the jam with the help of a double play by Caty Eby, who made a diving catch and doubled the runner at 3rd. Rook struck out the final batter to preserve the victory.
Rook’s performance helped her edge out teammate Molly Zinecker and football players James Desjardins and Zach Dickens for this week’s honor. Every Sunday night, you’ll have a chance to select which Republic athlete turned in the best single-game performance of the previous week. I’ll post the results every Monday.
