After a mental letdown in their last win over Mountain Grove, coach Piper Wright says she wanted her Lady Tigers to avoid a similar fate against Marshfield Tuesday. The final result — a 25-17 25-13 victory — indicated they accomplished that mission.

“Our main goal for tonight after that first win was just, get it in two (sets) and, honestly, not show any mercy,” says Wright. “That was our goal was to keep focus and continue to play at our level.”

Lexi Birlew and Haley Chastain led the Lady Tigers with eight kills apiece. Maddy Sherman led the defense with nine digs. Emily Preston had 31 assists, and Preston and Mansker contributed two blocks each.

“I thought we played pretty good defense and had a lot better connections than Thursday, as far as our setter and hitter goes,” Wright says. “We actually changed our rotation a little bit, and I felt like it was working for us.”

The JV Lady Tigers also won, 17-25 28-26 25-20. The freshmen won 25-12 25-10.

Republic improves to 3-1 this season, and has won three straight.
