There was a certain symmetry to the golf season at Republic in 2012-13. In the fall, the Lady Tigers qualified two golfers to state — and in the spring, the Tigers followed that up with two of their own. For all their success, you voted the Tigers and Lady Tigers golfers the #9 story of the year.
In the fall, Allison Quigley and Baylee Rayl competed at Cape Girardeau in the state tournament. For Quigley, it was the fourth year she had qualified for state — sharing the record set by Payton Rayl. Quigley finished 30th overall, with a two-day score of 184. Baylee Rayl shot a 191 to finish 42nd.
During the boys season, Dylan Bekemeier stepped up to Class 4 after winning the Class 3 state championship, and qualified for state again. But this time, he was joined by senior Beau Allen at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield. That’s the same course where Bekemeier had won the championship the previous year, but a rough stretch on the back half of the course during Day One was too much for him to overcome. For Allen, a bad start — +6 through five holes — was the only blemish on what was otherwise a strong performance.
