Caty Eby scrambled home on a wild throw to 3rd base in the bottom of the 5th inning, and that was the only support Stephanie Eckhoff needed as the Lady Tigers beat Willard 1-0 Thursday.
Eby reached on an error to start the inning, and took second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, she tried to steal 3rd base. She scored when the throw from the catcher got by the third baseman.
Willard loaded the bases in the 6th inning, but Eckhoff got a strikeout to end the threat. In the 7th inning, the game ended when Republic catcher Emily Hall gunned out a runner trying to steal 3rd base.
Eckhoff allowed five hits and two walks in pitching the shutout. She struck out six.
For Republic, it was their fourth win in a row. They’re 9-43. Their next game is against Marshfield Friday.
