Garrett Woods tripled twice and struck out eight in five innings to lead Republic to a season-opening win over Lebanon, 13-6. Clayton Rose doubled twice and was hit by a pitch, and Austin Beckner added three singles for the Tigers.
Republic fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first, but answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. They added two in the second, and five more in the third.
Woods gave up four runs — only one of them earned — on three hits and three walks. He picked up the win. Nathan Strobel pitched two innings to close out the Yellowjackets.
Republic improves to 1-0 and will be back in action Monday night at home. Lebanon falls to 0-1.
