Lady Tigers Force 28 Turnovers in Win

The Republic Lady Tigers hounded Marshfield with relentless full-court pressure on the way to a 66-36 win in the district semifinal at Republic. Republic’s pressure forced six turnovers in a row at one point, and Marshfield didn’t break the press until 5 1/2 minutes into the game. The Lady Jays committed 28 turnovers for the game.

Poor shooting by Republic was the only thing keeping the score close early. The Lady Tigers missed several short jumpers when they could have built a big lead. It was 13-7 after one period.

In the 2nd quarter, the shots started to fall for Republic and the scoreboard changed accordingly. The Lady Tigers went on a 13-3 run to start the quarter and ran the score to 30-16 at halftime.

Another run to start the second half put the game away for Republic, as the Lady Tigers outscored Marshfield 19-4 to begin the third quarter.

Alice Heinzler scored 21 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Brooke Dutton and Alexis Edwards had 11 points apiece. Sarah Kreul chipped in 8.

Lauren Aldridge scored 22 to lead all scorers for Marshfield.

Republic improves to 18-8. Marshfield ends its season 15-11.

The Lady Tigers play in the district finals Friday against the winner of the Hillcrest/Bolivar game.

In the bleachers, Camry Cowan was voted the fan with the best spirit wear.
