Neosho scored early, then tacked on another key goal after a penalty in the second half, then hung on to beat Republic 2-1 in soccer Thursday.
The game was played in sloppy conditions, and that slowed down the action until late in the game, after Republic pulled to within one goal on a penalty kick by Paul Adams. The Tigers pressed hard in the final few minutes, and got two good scoring chances, but couldn’t convert. The best chance came on a shot that hit the post before Neosho’s goalie grabbed it away from the goal.
Two corner kicks late in the game also failed to turn into the equalizing goal for Republic.
