The Republic Tigers outslugged Hillcrest to pick up their first win of the year Wednesday, 11-9 at Hillcrest. The Tigers scored six runs in the top of the 2nd inning and held on down the stretch. Hillcrest loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th, but Garrett Woods struck out the final batter to pick up the save.
Nathan Strobel started the game on the mound for Republic, and pitched 2 2/3 innings. He left with the Tigers leading 7-6. Republic stretched the lead to 11-6 with Patrick Dickens on the hill. The Hornets scored a single run off Dickens in the 6th, and two in the 7th, before Woods got the final out.
Dalton Cooper had two hits, and Woods and Dalton Phelps each doubled for the Tigers.
