The Republic baseball team is the last set of Tigers to move into its new home. After the opening of the new baseball field was delayed last season, the Tigers finally opened their new park with a game against Lebanon Saturday. Republic lost in a rain-shortened game against Lebanon, 5-2.
Republic loaded the bases in the bottom of the 4th inning, trailing 5-1, but a Garrett Woods line drive was caught by the Lebanon 3rd baseman, resulting in a double play. Rain and lightning ended the game in the bottom of the 5th.
The Tigers had better weather, but similar results against Rogersville Monday. The Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the 1st, but Republic answered with five runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning. From there, though the Tigers were shut down, managing only two more hits the rest of the way in a 10-6 loss.
