The Nixa Eagles used a 12-0 run midway through the 2nd half to pull away from Republic, on the way to a 57-47 victory at Nixa Friday.
After Republic tied the game at 37, the Eagles scored the last six points of the 3rd quarter, and the first six points of the 4th quarter, to take a 12-point lead. The Tigers never pulled closer than six points the rest of the way.
Republic jumped to an early lead, thanks to a hot start by Kevin Stander. Stander hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points in the first quarter. After one period, Republic led 15-11.
The Eagles outscored Republic 18-11 in the 2nd quarter, to take a 29-26 halftime lead. In the 3rd quarter, Nixa jumped out early before Republic fought back to tie it. But Nixa ran off six straight points to end the quarter, and led 43-37 heading into the final period. The Eagles scored six more in a row to start the 4th quarter, and coasted from there.
Stander finished with 20 points to lead all scorers. Nick Yocum scored 10, Jonathan Combs scored 8, and Dylan Fletcher scored 4. Brody Thompson added a 3-pointer, and Nick Dibbens had 2 points for the Tigers.
For the Eagles, Seth Matlock had 13 points to lead a balanced attack. Jordan Keeney added 10 points. Ben Fisher had 8, Jalen Norman had 7, and Gabe Woodman and Kameron Bundy had 6 apiece. Zac Hill scored 5, and Austin Ruder had 2 points for Nixa.
The Eagles improve to 21-1. Republic falls to 15-5.
