Republic used an 18-0 run to start the second quarter, and never looked back, on the way to an 84-60 over Aurora in the season opener for both teams at the Republic Invitational. The Tigers led 23-17 at the end of one period, but extended the lead to 41-17 before Aurora scored again.
Republic’s Kevin Stander led all scorers with 23 points. The Tigers had three other players in double figures. Dylan Fletcher, Nick Yocum and Josh Morrow had 10 points apiece.
Aurora center Waylon Doty led the Houn’ Dawgs with 18 points. Betim Begzatoski had 15.
Republic is 1-0. Aurora is 0-1. Both teams continue pool play in the season-opening tournament Friday.
