Hailey Johnson, Amanda Davis and Payton Appleberry have won All-State honors in softball.
Johnson, who hit over .600 and slugged a walk-off grand slam to put Republic in the state semifinals, is one of five pitchers on the Class 3 All-State first team. Among the other pitchers is Kirksville’s Jackie Bishop, who struck out 21 Republic hitters in ten innings in the state semifinals. Haley Pypes, the Platte County pitcher who faced Republic in the state 3rd place game, also made the first team.
Republic senior catcher Amanda Davis was named to the All-State second team. She hit .416 with seven doubles, a triple and a home run on the season. Her grand slam in the sectional game against Carl Junction propelled the Lady Tigers into the quarterfinals.
Shortstop Payton Appleberry was one of only six sophomores to earn All-State honors. She was named to the second team. Appleberry hit .337, and had four hits in Republic’s two games at the final four in St. Joseph.
