The Republic freshman volleyball team lost just one game all day — in a 3-game final against Carthage — as they won the championship of the Nixa Tournament. Just two days ago, Republic had lost to Carthage in two games. But Saturday’s final was a different story, with the Lady Tigers winning a thriller, 28-26 20-25 15-13.
Republic played several close matches, but made it through pool play without dropping a game. They beat West Plains (25-17 26-24), Branson (25-16 25-21), Camdenton (25-21 25-22), and Springfield Central (25-14 25-12).
In the quarterfinals, the Lady Tigers topped Reeds Spring (25-17 25-23). They followed that up with a win in the semifinals over the host team, Nixa (25-23 25-23), before avenging their earlier loss to Carthage.
It’s the second tournament victory of the year for the freshmen. They also won the Joplin Tournament.
